2Signs and Symptoms of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive condition. The symptoms may develop gradually for some individuals, but occur more quickly in others. Most problems are associated with stiffness and scarring in the lungs. These include shortness of breath, aching joints and muscles, a dry and chronic cough, fatigue, rounder and rounder toes or fingers, unexpected weight loss, chest tightness or pain, loss of appetite, as well as weakness. In later stages, the condition may make it harder for your lungs to take in sufficient oxygen. This would result in heart failure, respiratory failure, and further complications. Fortunately, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis progresses slowly, and many treatment options are also available to help manage the symptoms. [3]
