7Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
A hysterectomy can also be performed to remove the uterus in severe cases of pelvic inflammatory disease or PID. This is an infection of the reproductive organs, including uterus, cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. When the bacteria spread, they would cause extremely dangerous or fatal conditions. Antibiotics are often the first-line treatment if the condition is detected early. However, a hysterectomy might be needed when your uterus is infected. Otherwise, it would lead to further complications and can even lead to death in many cases. [7]
