If your hypocalcemia is caused by an overactive parathyroid gland, then surgery might be needed to eliminate the tissues or parts that are causing the condition. In most cases, only one of four parathyroid glands would be affected. Before starting, your doctor will take a scanning test with the injection of radioactive materials to find out the parts that are not functioning properly. After the procedure, there might be some complications or side effects. Therefore, follow-up appointments are necessary to ensure complete recovery. [12]
