6Treatments of Endometrial Cancer
Surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy are the most common treatments for endometrial cancer. Sometimes, doctors also combine these treatments to achieve a prominent therapeutic effect.
Surgery, Radiation Therapy & Chemotherapy
Surgery involves removing the uterus, cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, which leads to permanent infertility. Therefore, women who still want to be pregnant would put off surgery and choose other alternative treatments. Followed after surgery, radiation therapy uses high-energy beams or materials to kill remaining cancer cells and prevent a recurrence. Chemotherapy is applied when women with high-grade cancers or cancerous cells spread out quickly. Taking chemo drugs of carboplatin, cisplatin, liposomal doxorubicin (Doxil®), paclitaxel (Taxol®), and docetaxel (Taxotere®) in cycles could slow down the spread, but also causes some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, hair loss, poor appetite, etc. In more severe cases, kidney damage could happen.
