5Biopsy and Imaging Tests
The biopsy is often conducted during endoscopy or colonoscopy. Your doctor will take out a small tissue sample and send it to the laboratory for analysis. The presence of granulomas indicates the immune system’s reaction to foreign invaders, infections, or inflammation, and it is generally considered the hallmark in Crohn’s disease diagnosis.
Imaging tests are radiologic procedures involving many types such as X-ray, CT scans, MRI scans, etc. These tests give a detailed picture of your bowel walls and allow the doctor to see the soft tissues in the abdomens.
