11Intubation
During intubation, your doctor will put a breathing tube into your windpipe to allow for assisted breathing or mechanical ventilation. After that, he or she will connect this breathing tube to a respirator, also known as a ventilator or breathing machine. This option is often used when you cannot breathe yourself or when your respiratory system cannot oxygenate the lungs or remove carbon dioxide effectively. Depending on your needs, the machine would offer oxygen, pressure, air volume, or breaths. [11]
