9Treatments for Cholera
Antibiotics
In severe cases, your doctor might prescribe antibiotics to alleviate the symptom and get rid of bacteria. These medications should be used in addition to other treatments rather than replacing them. Doxycycline is currently the most popular option. You only need a single pill, but it isn’t recommended for pregnant women and kids due to some potential side effects such as vomiting and nausea. Some other options to choose include erythromycin, azithromycin, tetracycline, or furazolidone. A reason why these drugs aren’t used widely is because of an increased risk of drug-resistant bacteria strains. [9]
