Cholera Facts: Symptoms, Causes and Treatments

8Visiting or Living in Endemic Areas

You cannot get cholera when the bacteria are not present, so it might be at higher risks when you visit an area where the bacteria are common. If you are planning to visit any endemic countries, make sure to take preventive measures by drinking clean water, eat cooked food, and keep your hands always clean. Just like the flu, cholera could be sporadic or seasonal in those areas. Thus, do research and check out the outbreak season for a proper plan. Keep in mind that areas, where the illness is not endemic, could still have outbreaks, although they are basically very limited in scope and rare. [8]
