4Causes of Catatonic Schizophrenia

The exact cause of catatonic schizophrenia is still unclear. Studies have shown that most types are related to brain dysfunction. However, they do not know the reason for these problems to happen. A possible risk factor is an imbalance of a neurotransmitter called dopamine. This chemical is involved in the onset of some typical symptoms. More specifically, a combination of environmental factors and genetics can make your body more prone to catatonic schizophrenia. The levels of serotonin, another neurotransmitter, can also be involved.[4]
