Several medications used for treating cardiovascular issues would trigger bradycardia. Calcium channel blockers can help prevent calcium from penetrating cells in the blood vessels and heart. While this effect would help with angina, arrhythmias, or hypertension, it might also reduce contraction and cause low heart rates. Beta-blockers can have similar effects by blocking the stimulation of epinephrine to reduce the heart’s workload and consumption of myocardial oxygen. Other medications that increase the risk of bradycardia include cardiac glycoside and alpha/beta-adrenergic blockers. [8]
