3Structure of Basophils
Basophils are granulocytes. This means they are comprised of small granules, which store and produce chemicals and enzymes. For instance, histamine from basophils can help promote the extensive inflammatory reaction typical of basophils. On a lab technique called bloodstain to evaluate cells, basophils typically have a purplish or bluish color. We can even notice many granules easily. The normal diameter of basophils is between 14 to 16 µm, which is around two times as big as red blood cells. [3]
