Multiple sclerosis or MC is a chronic disease involving the central nervous system. It is a form of autoimmune disease that triggers your immune system to attack myelin, the protective layer around your nerve cells. Over time, these nerve cells will be heavily damaged. This leads to some common symptoms of brain atrophy and dementia, such as problems with coordination, movement, and sensation. The condition is more common in women and often develops in young adulthood. Brain atrophy is a typical part of multiple sclerosis. Indeed, this is one of the most serious and destructive complications of the disease.
