It is very surprising and confusing how difficulty in swallowing is linked with stroke. But then, most stroke patients have reported this condition as one they battle with. Otherwise known as dysphagia, it is a medical condition that brings difficulty in swallowing because the muscles of the throat are paralyzed. With dysphagia, eating, drinking and taking medication to become extremely difficult. This is the reason most stroke patients lose weight. This symptom if not taken care of can result in further complications such as malnutrition, dehydration, and infection. [9]
