4Irregular Periods and Slow Heart Rate
People with an iodine deficiency may experience irregular periods and heavy bleeding. Like other signs above, this symptom is associated with low thyroid hormone levels, which disrupt the signals sent by hormones involved in the menstrual cycle. Studies have shown that most people with low levels of this hormone experience menstrual cycles more frequently as well as bleed more heavily. [5]
The heart rate is measured by the number of times the heart beats in 60 seconds. It would be affected by levels of iodine. When the body does not take in this mineral sufficiently, it may cause the heart to beat more slowly than normal. When you take in too much iodine, it may cause the heart to beat more quickly than normal. When the heart rate is abnormally slow, you may experience some health issues, such as dizziness, fatigue, and weakness. [6]
