9Unexpected Changes in Weight
Unexpected weight loss and weight gain is another sign of ovarian cancer. Unintentional weight loss is defined as a 5% or higher loss in body weight during a period of 6 to 12 months. In the case of ovarian cancer, several different reasons can lead to weight loss. People suffering from this form of cancer experience reduced appetite as well as difficulty in swallowing, which often leads to weight loss. Similarly, ovarian cancer can also cause weight gain. This weight gain can be due to ascites, a condition in which fluids accumulate in the abdominal region. [8]
