8Bad Breath
The upward movement of stomach acid through the lower esophageal sphincter can sometimes cause bad breath, or bad breath may occur as a result of regurgitation of undigested food, which is a symptom of GERD on its own. The most common occurrence is for a person that has GERD to experience a bitter taste after experiencing heartburn; when this continuously happens, you should know that there is an underlying condition causing it. While it is possible to have bad breath for a little while after an episode of heartburn, constant heartburn and bad breath usually indicate gastroesophageal reflux disease, and you should see your doctor as soon as you notice this for diagnosis and treatment.[5]
