The role of genetic factors in developing mesothelioma cancer is still unclear. Similar to other forms of cancer, some people can be genetically predisposed to this condition. This means the risk of developing cancerous cells may be higher when these individuals are exposed to asbestos. In contrast, some people never develop this disease even when they are exposed to these minerals frequently. Scientists have found some gene mutations that may increase the risk, including NF2, CDKN2A, and BAP1. After mutation, these genes may affect the body’s capability of preventing mesothelioma cancer.
