9Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome
Wernicke’s encephalopathy, also known as Wernicke’s disease, is a form of brain disorder caused by a vitamin B1 deficiency. This results in the bleeding of lower brain regions, which causes dementia over time. The condition is often characterized by some physical symptoms, such as a loss of muscle coordination or double vision. In advanced cases, Wernicke’s disease would progress and develop into Korsakoff syndrome. These two conditions are associated and grouped together as a single disease called Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. They would cause many symptoms of dementia as a result of chronic infections or malnutrition. [9]
