2Co-Washing versus Shampooing
The main difference between co-washing and shampooing lies in the use of different hair products: conditioners versus shampoos. While conditioners can make your hair smoother and add moisture, shampoos would get rid of buildup and oils from the scalp and hair. Nevertheless, both of these products contain substances called surfactants, which are able to remove dirt and oil. Surfactants in conditioners are cationic, which tend to stick to the hair surface and cover the follicle instead of forming a lather. On the other hand, surfactants in shampoos are anionic, which are harsher and form a lather. [3]
