7How to Stop Cissexism
There are many ways to support the transgender community and help prevent cissexism. Some common measures may include:
– Do not ask personal questions about sex life, surgery, or genitals
– Do not use cissexist slurs
– Be informed and educated about the problems that transgender people may face
– Do not believe in stereotypes or make false assumptions about the transgender community
– Ask a person to figure which pronouns they prefer being called
– Use gender-neutral words, such as they, instead of he, she, ladies, or gentlemen
– Do not give insults to transgender people
– Respect the decisions of other people on where and when they want to come out as transgender
– Try to educate and speak up to other people when they show cissexist behaviors or tendencies. Keep in mind to ensure that you are still safe when doing this. In certain cases, it would be better to stay silent and avoid direct confrontations. Otherwise, physical abuse or violence may occur. [10]
