7Calcium-rich Foods
People with ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease are often at a high risk of calcium deficiency. Thus, it is important to consume a sufficient amount in the daily diet. The recommended intake is around 1000 mg each day for men and 1200 mg each day for women. Children should take in around 800 to 1500 mg each day. Make sure to aim for at least 3 to 4 portions of calcium-rich foods every day, including cheese, yogurt, lactose-free milk, or canned fish. If you cannot get the recommended calcium amount in your diet, just add calcium supplements. [7]
