5Conjoined Twins
Conjoined twins are actually identical twins. However, they do not separately from each other completely as the fertilized ovum cannot divide totally. It means that the babies are physically connected at some body parts at birth, such as the chest or the abdomen. In addition, conjoined twins would even share their internal limbs or organs. It is estimated that around 1 out of 50,000 births belongs to this type of twins. They tend to be born prematurely and die shortly after or before birth. However, some may survive and would be separated thanks to a surgical procedure. Those women who have conjoined twins usually have higher risk of complications than the general population. [5]
