7Practice breathing exercise
One of the symptoms of COPD is breathlessness. This is due to the fact that the muscles used to breathe are already weakened but a breath exercise will improve and strengthen the muscles and also ease breathlessness. The first time of taking a breathing exercise can be difficult but going at your own pace with consistency will improve your ability to exercise more. You can try breathing exercises such as pursed-lip breathing, diaphragm breathing, cardio workouts, yoga, etc. However, in a situation where a COPD patient has muscle or bone conditions which makes it more difficult to exercise, water-based exercise should be done instead. Water-based exercises are interestingly more effective than land-based exercises. The body of water gives buoyancy and places less stress on the body of the patient. [6]
