In bridge piercing, a 12- or 14-gauge straight or curved barrel is often used. The following materials are recommended for initial piercings to lower possible risk of complications:

– Surgical steel: This material is durable and affordable. It contains a low level of nickel, which can be safe for most people.

– Titanium: This is often the first choice for many people as it is completely safe and hypoallergenic.

– Niobium: It is quite similar to titanium. It is cheaper, but not as medical grade as titanium.

– 14k gold: If you choose gold, go for 14k or higher to avoid wear and tear inside the body. You should also purchase solid instead of plated gold, which may flake off over time. [5]
