6Possible Side Effects and Interactions with Pravastatin
Common side effects of pravastatin include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, common cold, and headache. In mild cases, these effects tend to disappear in several days or weeks. If they persist or worsen, inform your pharmacist or doctor as soon as possible. In some cases, more serious side effects would happen. These include muscle issues, such as pain, tenderness, and weakness, and liver issues, such as dark-colored urine, upper abdominal pain, yellowing of the eyes’ whites or skin, loss of appetite, weakness, or tiredness. Some medications may affect how pravastatin works and increase the risk of serious side effects. These include warfarin, colchicine, ciclosporin, hepatitis C medications, certain HIV drugs, as well as several antibiotics, such as fusidic acid, rifampicin, or clarithromycin. If you need to take one of these medications while taking pravastatin, your doctor would prescribe a different type of statin, reduce the dose of pravastatin, or ask you to stop taking this drug for a short period.
