Ovulation Test – What You Need to Know

2Overview of Ovulation Test

If you plan to get pregnant, it is important to know when to have sex. An ovulation test may help determine the time when you are most likely to conceive during the menstrual cycle. Ideally, you should take this test several days before anticipated ovulation. The test works by identifying a surge in the luteinizing hormone, which usually happens about 36 hours before the most fertile window. Having sexual intercourse right after this increase would make it more likely for sperm and egg to meet and thus result in pregnancy. [3]

How Do Ovulation Tests Work?

An ovulation test works by measuring the level of luteinizing hormone in the body. During ovulation, the woman’s body releases this hormone more to bring the egg to the final phases of maturity. This is also known as the luteinizing hormone surge. It typically occurs around 36 hours before ovulation. Measuring this level may help identify the time when women are most likely to conceive. Ideally, it is best to have sexual intercourse between 3 and 5 days before ovulation.  [4]
