8Mupirocin Storage and Disposal
Mupirocin ointment should be stored in a tightly closed container at room temperature, ideally between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F), and away from excess moisture and heat. Do not put it in a freezer. Keep the drug out of reach of small kids and children. To ensure the safety for your children, it is a good idea to lock the caps and put the drug back to a safe place immediately after every application.
For disposal, throw it away so that children, pets, and others cannot get them. Nevertheless, avoid flushing mupirocin in the toilet. The best option is to bring the medication to a take-back program. Consult your local recycling authority or pharmacists to learn more. [9]
