8Abscess Drainage
Mumps infection can lead to a restricted area of pus called an abscess. Though it is not common, it can be challenging to treat with medications. Thus, the doctor might have to drain the area. In general, this is a simple process that might need local anesthesia for numbing the area and alleviating pain. After that, an incision is made for the infected pus to come out. Once everything is done, the area would be cleansed. Stitches might be needed or not, depending on the size of the incision and abscess. [8]
