6Back to Work with Medicare Disability
You can get benefits for Medicare with a disability as long as you are deemed medically disabled by a medical professional. If you go back to work and are still under 65 years old, you do not have to pay Part A premium in the next 8.5 years. Once this period has passed, you need to pay a premium of $259 per month. Make sure to do your own research to determine whether Medicare benefits still apply to your individual case. [9]
What Happens to Medicare Disability When You Turn 65?
When you turn 65 years old, Medicare benefits will automatically turn from disability-based to age-based. In other words, there will be another opportunity to enroll into Medicare. If you have not participated in Medicare Part B even when you qualified for disability under 65, you will now be eligible for this plan once you turn 65. You will get a notification mail around 3 months before you turn 65. During this period, you may also decide to participate in Medicare Part C or Part D. [10]
