3How Lucentis Works

Many eye disorders are caused by an overgrowth of atypical blood vessels under your retina, which is the thin layer of tissue in the back of your eye. This leads to an accumulation of fluid that may increase the risk of vision issues or even blindness. In general, these abnormal blood vessels require a substance called VEGF to grow. This substance is naturally released by the body. The active ingredient ranibizumab in Lucentis can attach to VEGF, thus preventing it from generating more blood vessels. As a result, taking this medication would reduce fluid accumulation and improve your vision gradually. It may take 1 week or even more to have noticeable improvements. [3]
