CPR with breaths, also known as mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, is suitable for infants, children, teenagers, and adults. However, the specific technique for chest compressions are not the same for every age groups. The general steps include chest compressions, airway opening, and then breathing. It is important to perform this technique in the first few minutes of an accident when oxygen is still in the person’s bloodstream and lungs. CPR with breaths should be done when you are officially trained to ensure safety and effectiveness. Otherwise, it is better to use hands-only CPR. [7]

How to Perform CPR with Breaths for Teenagers and Adults

Below are basic steps to perform CPR with breaths for teenagers and adults:

– Step 1: Do chest compressions 30 times.

– Step 2: Open the airway by placing your hand’s palm on the forehead of the patient and tilt head back. Use the other hand to slightly lift the chin forward.

– Step 3: While opening the airway, shut your nostrils and use a CPR mask to cover the mouth of the patient.

– Step 4: Breathe two times. Each time lasts around 1 second. Look for the chest of the patient to rise with your breath.

– Step 4: Alternate 30 chest compressions and 2 breaths until medical services arrive or the patient starts to breathe again. [8]
