8Lysine
Lysine is a form of amino acid that may hinder the growth of herpes-zoster viruses. It also has certain antiviral properties that inhibit the activity of arginine, which allows these viruses to replicate. With these two effects, many people believe that consuming lysine-containing foods may help improve the symptoms of shingles. Some great sources of lysine in the diet include:
– Legumes: soybeans, tofu, tempeh, soy milk, beans, lentils, hummus, chickpeas, edamame
– Fruits and veggies: beets, avocados, dried mangoes and apricots, potatoes, red and green peppers, pears, tomatoes, leeks
– Grains, seeds, nuts
– Eggs
– Fish
– Dairy products: milk, butter, cheese, yogurt
– Mean: chicken, pork, beef
– Seafood: snails, shrimp, oysters [8]
