3Cryoablation and Vacuum-Assisted Excision Biopsy
Another treatment option for small fibroadenomas is cryoablation. In this method, a small cut is made in the skin and then a probe is inserted to pump liquid nitrogen, which can freeze and damage cells in the tumor. Once the tissues have died, white blood cells in the body’s immune system will get rid of them. Before the procedure, your doctor would use an imaging technique, such as a CT scan or an ultrasound, to locate the exact area for using liquid nitrogen. [5]
In a vacuum-assisted excision biopsy, a doctor will make a small cut in the skin and then insert a probe that is connected to a vacuum device to suck out fibroadenomas. Ultrasound is used during this procedure to ensure proper guiding. This is an outpatient option that can be done under a local anesthesia. There is also no need for stitches. However, people would have a bruise or pain in the area afterward. In certain circumstances, a small dent may appear in the breast due to the removal of tissues. [6]
