Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice for Acid Reflux – Does It Work?

5Is Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Safe?

Due to the removal of glycyrrhizin, deglycyrrhizinated licorice is much safer than whole licorice extract. There are currently no known side effects caused by this herbal supplement. Nevertheless, an overuse would reduce the levels of potassium in the body and cause certain health concerns. Ideally, you should not take more than 200 to 300 mg of deglycyrrhizinated licorice before eating or sleeping to help manage the symptoms of acid reflux and treat gastric ulcers. It is advisable to take chewable forms, such as tablets or wafers, as they are more effective than capsules. This is because the chewed extract can be mixed with saliva easily and release more compounds to help heal wounds. [7]
