3Nosebleeds or Asthma
If you have a nosebleed and lie on the back during sleep, blood would flow into the back of your nose and the top of your throat. As a result, you would swallow the blood and cough up later. When this occurs, blood may come out of the nose when you get up. In more serious cases, you would even cough up blood flowing down into your throat. Fortunately, most cases of nosebleeds tend to be mild and resolve without treatment. If bleeding persists for more than 30 minutes, it is better to seek medical treatment. [3]
During or after an attack, asthma may cause people to cough up blood. In fact, this condition accounts for around 10 percent of reported cases. Some common signs include breathing issues, wheezing, and coughing early in the morning. These symptoms tend to worsen during asthma episodes. Although it is more common in children, the disease may also affect adults. Currently, there is no cure for asthma. However, many treatment options are available to help manage the symptoms. These include certain medications, exercise, and steroid inhalers for emergency cases. [4]
