10Pathogen Prevention
There are a few measures that you can take to help prevent pathogens and associated conditions. These include:
– Safe sex: Regular health checkups, using condoms, and other safe sex practices can lower the risk of STIs
– Clean surfaces: Contaminated objects or surfaces, especially those you often touch, could spread disease
– Regular hand washing and drying: This can prevent pathogens from being spread. Make sure to wash with an alcohol-based sanitizer or water and soap for at least 20 seconds after the toilet, touching animals, coughing, sneezing, taking care of sick people, or doing activities outside.
– Vaccination: There are many vaccines against infections, such as measles, whooping cough, or influenza. They are available for adults, children, and babies. Make sure to be informed to prevent infections in the future.
– Bathroom and kitchen cleaning: Many infectious pathogens can be found in the bathroom and kitchen. Therefore, make sure to clean these spaces regularly.
– Avoiding insect bites: Wearing a hat, pants, long-sleeved shirts, and apply insect repellents when you go outside.
– Avoiding going to work or school when you are sick to reduce the risk of spreading pathogens to other people. [6]
