7How to Perform Nipple Stimulation
Below are basic steps to stimulate the nipples for inducing labor. Keep in mind that it is only suitable for women with low-risk pregnancies.
Step 1: Select the right tool
You should mimic the latch of a baby to get the best results. You can stimulate the nipples with the mouth of your partner, a breast pump, or your own fingers.
Step 2: Aim at the aerola
This is the dark area around the nipple. Gently rub the aerola and nipple with your palm or fingers. Consider applying a lubricant or oil to feel more comfortable
Step 3: Aftercare
To avoid overstimulation from this procedure, you should only do it on one breast at a time. Stop after 5 minutes and wait around 15 seconds before starting again. If you have contractions, stop nipple stimulation.
It is advisable to consult your healthcare provider before doing nipple stimulation for inducing labor. [8]
