4Stress and Hair Loss
While stress and depression are different, they may be linked to each other. Stress may be a possible cause of hair thinning and some common forms of hair loss, such as alopecia areata, trichotillomania, and telogen effluvium. People may feel stressed after persistent challenges or unexpected changes in life. Common triggers include health conditions, family or relationship issues, stress at work or school, the death of close friends or loved ones, job loss or change, divorce, and more. If left unresolved, these stressors would lead to depression. Studies have shown that women with hair loss tend to experience both depression symptoms and stress. [4]
