8Which Drugs May Interact with Azithromycin?

Azithromycin may interact with other drugs and substances. These include:

– Alcohol: Consuming beer or wine while taking azithromycin would increase the medication’s side effects.

– Antacids: Avoid taking azithromycin at the same time with other medications that contain magnesium hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide, such as Tums, Mylanta, or Maalox. The extended-release suspension would be taken with antacids at any time.

– Some blood thinners and medications for treating irregular heartbeat, such as terfenadine, nelfinavir, sotalol, quinidine, procainamide, dofetilide, amiodarone, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, digoxin, cyclosporine, colchicine, or warfarin. Your doctor may monitor carefully or adjust the dosages of these medications to prevent serious side effects. [9]
