If you take Avonex with a pen, the medication should be injected into the outer area of the upper thigh. For a powder solution or prefilled syringe, it can be given in the upper arm or thigh. Select a skin area that is not prone to scars, bruises, infection, discoloration, or irritation. Choose a different area within these sites after each time.
