Corn is another grain asides rice that is certified to be free of gluten. This food is from a different branch of the grain family, different from the family where grains like rye, wheat, and barley belong. Although, corn contains a substance commonly and popularly known as ‘corn gluten,’ it is still gluten-free because the corn gluten substance in it is different from the same gluten that causes people to react or cause them to have the celiac disease. Asides plain corn, other variations of corn like cornflour, cornmeal, cornstarch, and hominy are also gluten-free. However, beware of the types of corn products you purchase. Make sure to read the label on any product very carefully to be sure the corn variation does not have any additive that contains gluten.[4]
