5Physical Exam
Whooping cough tends to cause typical symptoms in kids and adults. They would occur within 1 week after you are exposed to the bacteria. During this period, your doctor would do a physical exam to find out the underlying cause. The condition often begins with cold-like signs, such as fever or a mild cough. After the first week, some additional symptoms start to show up like mild cough, apnea, low-grade fever, or runny nose. Based on these signs, your doctor will decide which test to test next to have an accurate diagnosis or verify the cause. [5]
