8Treatments
The main goal of polycystic kidney disease treatment is to prevent complications and manage symptoms, especially high blood pressure. To help reduce pain on your back or side, the doctor would suggest some painkillers. However, avoid ibuprofen as it would worsen your kidney disease. In addition, antibiotics and blood pressure drugs can be used to treat the condition. Diuretics or water pills are effective in helping the kidney remove excess waste and fluids from your body. In more serious cases when kidney failure or renal disease occurs, surgery might be needed to remove a part or the whole kidney.[8]
