The stages of polycystic kidney disease and other kidney diseases are basically classified by the GFR or glomerular filtration rate.

– Stage 1: GFR number is normal with some minor signs of kidney disease.

– Stage 2: GFR number is around 90 ml

– Stage 3: GFR number is around 60 ml

– Stage 4: GRF number is around 30 ml

– Stage 5: GFR number is around 15 ml. In this stage, renal failure might occur

Most people with polycystic kidney disease rarely advance to stage 3. Early diagnosis and treatment are necessary to prevent further damage and complications. [4]
