6Treatment Options for Erosive Osteoarthritis
Medications
The first-line treatment options for erosive osteoarthritis are prescription and OTC painkillers. For instance, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, can be effective in relieving inflammation caused by the disease. If NSAIDs are not suitable for you, your doctor may suggest analgesics for pain relievers. In more serious cases, these oral drugs might not be effective enough. Therefore, doctors would suggest off-label use of certain drugs, such as methotrexate, typically prescribed for people with rheumatoid arthritis. Steroid injections may be used to alleviate pain and inflammation. However, it should only be used for short-term treatments. [9]
