11Radiofrequency Ablation
Radiofrequency ablation uses radiofrequency energy to heat the wall of the varicose veins. The affected veins can be accessed via a small incision made below or above the knee. After that, the doctor will put a catheter into the vein with the help of an ultrasound. A probe can be inserted into this narrow tube to transmit radiofrequency energy. The heat generated can make the walls of the veins collapse. Once they are closed and sealed, blood will be naturally redirected to other healthy veins. Depending on your health conditions and affected areas, radiofrequency ablation can be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. There might be possible side effects in the short term, especially paraesthesia or pins and needles. Your doctor would suggest you wearing compression stockings or socks for 1 week after surgery.[11]
