Transverse myelitis is known as a onetime disease. It causes inflammation of both sides of the cross-section of your spinal cord. But in some cases, it can be an early sign of multiple sclerosis, a more serious illness that affects the nervous system. This is especially true for partial myelitis, meaning it only affects one side of your cross-section. People with this condition tend to have their immune system mistakenly attacks their nerve cells. Multiple sclerosis would affect different body parts, including limbs, eyes, and brain. Currently, there is no cure for this health issue. Therefore, health experts recommend that anyone with partial myelitis or transverse myelitis should be checked for multiple sclerosis.[2]
