Many genetic factors contribute to the occurrence of a transient ischemic attack. Some races or ethnicities with a higher risk include Asians, Hispanics, and African Americans. Those people who are more than 50 years old are also at greater possibilities due to the aging of their cognitive system and brain functions. If you have parents or siblings with the condition, then you might also be at risks. Some genetic disorders like sickle cell anemia would pass down between generations and cause a ministroke. Lastly, the number of reported women with a transient ischemic attack is often higher than men. This can be attributed to some triggers such as migraines, hormone replacement therapy, pregnancy, and birth control pills. [12]
