7Medications
To help alleviate the pain caused by spinal stenosis, your doctor would prescribe some common pain drugs, such as acetaminophen, naproxen, or ibuprofen. However, they are only used for short-term solutions. Antidepressants can also a good option to deal with chronic pain. These medications should be taken each night before going to sleep. If spinal stenosis causes some damaged nerves, then anti-seizure drugs would be prescribed to reduce the risk. These include pregabalin and gabapentin.
In more severe cases, opioids or medications containing codeine-related substances such as hydrocodone and oxycodone might be used for pain relief. However, they would lead to addiction or abuse if used in the long run. Make sure to consult your doctor about the possible effects before taking any drugs. [7]
