Quite a number of diseases lead to dry mouth. These diseases disorder the immune system and lead to dryness. The diseases range from less serious to more serious. The less serious diseases such as cold, flu, cough can bring about dry mouth. There are also more serious and dangerous diseases that lead to dry mouth. Diseases such as HIV/AIDS [6], anemia, hypertension, strokes, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, syjögren’s syndrome [7], and mumps all have dry mouth as one of their symptoms. A person with any of these diseases should take in more water and constantly chew on sugar-free-gum to keep the mouth moist.
